Dorwest Probiotic Plus for Dogs

What are the benefits of using a probiotic?

A healthy gut microbiome, which is all the microorganisms (including bacteria) that live in the gastrointestinal tract, is essential for digestive health. Probiotics support the good bacteria in your dog’s digestive tract and reduce the bad, promoting a healthy and balanced microbiome that helps to keep stools normal. Probiotic Plus is great for maintaining optimal gut health in any dog but is especially beneficial for dogs with sensitive tummies and/or loose stools. Probiotic Plus and our best-selling Tree Barks work fantastically together to provide all-round gut support.

There is also ever-expanding research showing the importance of a healthy gut microbiome for general health.⁴-⁶ This includes skin and behavioural effects, making Probiotic Plus the perfect addition to the Dorwest range!
What digestive support should I give my dog with tummy troubles?

We know how tricky it is to care for a dog prone to tummy troubles. Alongside a suitable high-quality diet and preventing them eating any potentially gurgle-inducing snacks, there are supplements you can give daily to support their digestive health.

Tree Barks is one of our best-sellers, containing three herbs renowned for their digestive health properties. They work together to provide effective gut support, for comfortable tummies and normal stools. A healthy gut microbiome is also key for optimal gut health and normal, firm stools. Probiotic Plus promotes a healthy microbiome and contains the probiotic Calsporin®, which is proven to improve stool consistency.²

These products are ideal to be used together in dogs with sensitive tummies and/or loose stools, for all-round gut support.

How do I give Probiotic Plus?

Use Probiotic Plus daily to maintain the powerful pre, pro and postbiotic action. Available in 100 and 200 capsule pots:

Small dog <10kg – 1 capsule per day

Medium 10-25kg – 2 capsules per day

Large >25kg – 3 capsules per day

The dual-use sprinkle capsule allows for flexible administration, enabling you to give Probiotic Plus directly or on-food to best suit the needs of you and your dog. This also means that Probiotic Plus is easy to use alongside other Dorwest products.

Bugalugs Scottish Salmon Oil for Dogs and Cats

Bugalugs premium Scottish Salmon Oil is a 100% natural supplement, sustainably sourced from the finest Scottish salmon and rich in omega 3, 6 and 9.

These natural oils are proven to improve skin and coat conditions – reducing itchy skin and making the coat soft and glossy.

This easy-to-use supplement is a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Also known to help brain activity and aid joint movement. It's important to note that Omega 3 fatty acids are vital for your pet's normal growth and development. However, your pet's body is unable to make them on their own. Therefore, it is important we add them to our dog's (and cat's) diet.

Daily use of Bugalugs Scottish Salmon oil will provide your dog with these essential acids ensuring they are happy and healthy.

Sustainability sourced from the finest Scottish salmon, raised under environmentally compatible conditions in the deep-sea lochs, this pure salmon oil will also improve the taste of your pet's food. Perfect for fussy eaters.

Overall, this healthy supplement is packed with essential omega oils. These oils strengthen the immune system, support positive cognitive development, and promotes the general well being of your dog (or cat).

Important: please refer to the feeding guide before administering this Scottish Salmon oil your pet.

Dorwest Soft and Serene Shampoo Bar

For the itchy and irritated, help restore calm with this highly soothing and nourishing formula.

Our Soft and Serene Shampoo Bar is specially formulated for dogs prone to itchy, irritated and sensitive skin. With borage oil and chamomile and lavender essential oils, alongside a base blend of shea butter and coconut, sunflower, castor and sweet almond oils, these highly nourishing and soothing natural ingredients support optimal skin health, so your dog can wave goodbye to flaky, dry skin.

What are the natural active ingredients in Soft and Serene shampoo bar?

Using the power of nature for calm and healthy skin:

Borage oil - naturally rich in Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), an Omega 6 fatty acid that is associated with supporting skin health and strengthening damaged or weakened skin barriers, making it ideal for those that are prone to dry and sensitive skin.

Chamomile - well known for its soothing properties, it is also an effective exfoliant and moisturiser. Helps to support a flake-free coat whilst calming areas of irritation and enriching coat colour.

Lavender - naturally calming and helps maintain optimal hair growth. It can help support the skin's natural defences, being traditionally renowned for having antibacterial and antifungal properties.

What are the benefits of a shampoo bar over liquid shampoos?

Bars offer some unique advantages compared to traditional liquid shampoos, making them the perfect partners for bath time:

Using the bar to massage your dog's skin can help to stimulate circulation, supporting healthy skin and coat.

Better for the environment with less packaging that is also 100% recyclable.

Ideal for travel - small and easy to pack with no risk of leaks!

Long-lasting - can provide more washes than a bottle of liquid shampoo (when cared for properly).

In some circumstances, liquid shampoos definitely still have their place to keep your pet squeaky clean, and our lovely range of natural liquid shampoos means that there is something for everyone.

Dorwest Soft and Serene Shampoo Bar

Why Dorwest pet shampoo bars?

Our nourishing pet shampoo bar range is handmade in Wales using 100% natural ingredients. Free from artificial colours and fragrances, parabens, SLS, silicone, mineral oil, petroleum and PEGs – you can be sure that you are washing your dog with nothing but natural goodness.

Specially formulated to support optimal skin and coat health, all the bars have a nourishing base blend of coconut oil, shea butter, sunflower oil, castor oil, and sweet almond oil. Naturally conditioning and moisturising, this combination helps reduce the need for a separate conditioner.

Each bar is formulated to create a creamy lather to help effortlessly clean the coat and lift dirt, but also to be easy rinse with no residue left behind. There are three bars to choose from – Fox and Flea, Natural and Naked or Soft and Serene, and they are all suitable for every coat type.

So, whether your four-legged friend is a mucky pup or sensitive-skinned, long, short, wire or smooth-coated, they can be pampered by nature.

How do I use the Soft and Serene shampoo bar for best effects?

To help you get the most out of your dog shampoo bar we have a few top tips:

Brushing your dog before washing (particularly long-coated breeds) makes it easier for the shampoo to get through and cleanse the entire coat.

Wet the shampoo bar and your dog’s coat.

Massage the bar through the coat until you have a good lather (this can take longer in hard water areas), then place the shampoo bar to the side and continue to massage the skin and coat for a deep clean.

Rinse the coat thoroughly to ensure all the shampoo has been washed out – this is generally easy with our shampoo bars as they have great rinsability!

Ater use, pop your bar on a soap dish or rack so it can fully dry (gaps to allow airflow help speed this up).

Once dry, you can put your bar back in the box, ready for the next bath time!

Remember:

Fully drying your bar is important to reduce tackiness – if your shampoo bar does become tacky a quick rinse before use can help

There can be a transition period when you stop using artificial ingredients on the coat. This can take longer in hard-water areas, so rinsing the coat thoroughly after shampooing and brushing the coat through when dry can be beneficial to make the transition smoother.

Dorwest Fox and Flea Shampoo Bar

For the muckiest of pups - keep your four-legged friend fresh and clean with our Fox and Flea Shampoo Bar.

Contains nettle, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass essential oils to help deep clean, deter parasites and counteract even the most unpleasant odours. You can be confident that this dog shampoo bar has got your (and their) back - even the fox poo rollers! These oils are also known to help deter unwanted biting beasties such as fleas and ticks.

Despite the deep cleaning power, the base of this shampoo bar contains a nourishing and moisturising blend of Shea butter and plant oils to naturally care for your dog's skin and coat.

What are the natural active ingredients in Fox and Flea?

Our Fox and Flea Shampoo Bar contains a blend of 100% natural ingredients, chosen to keep your canine friend clean and smelling great:

Nettle: helps to maintain optimal hair growth and strength, for a healthy shiny coat. Naturally rich in anti-oxidants to support skin health. Also gives the bar a naturally greenish colour.

Eucalyptus: helps maintain optimal skin condition and supports coat growth thanks to its moisturising and soothing properties. Its fresh scent helps to counteract strong odours and can help to deter biting insects.

Peppermint: deeply cleansing and can help to support the skin`s natural defences, being traditionally renowned for having antifungal properties. The minty smell helps to deter biting insects and is particularly good at counteracting unpleasant odours such as dreaded fox poo.

Lemongrass: deeply cleansing, ideal for removing impurities and dirt from the skin and coat. It supports healthy, flake-free skin and strong coat growth. Its distinct smell helps to create an unpleasant environment for biting insects.

How do I use the Fox and Flea shampoo bar for best effects?

What is Boswellia?

Boswellia is derived from the resin of the Boswellia serrata tree, native to India. Here it has had a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine, thanks to its joint supportive properties. Its primary active compounds are boswellic acids, which support natural anti-inflammatory pathways in the body. By supporting the natural processes that reduce inflammation, Boswellia can help promote joint comfort and mobility - making it a great choice for dogs that are experiencing joint health challenges.

There are several studies showing the benefits of using Boswellia to help ease joint problems in dogs, and studies in multiple species have shown that Boswellia has a good safety profile.

The Boswellia in MoveWellia® has been tested, with levels of boswellic acids guaranteed to be 90%, giving you a formulation you can trust. Used daily, this natural joint super-ingredient can help get your dog’s movement back to its best.

What is BrainCopa®?

BrainCopa contains a unique and powerful blend of natural active compounds, drawing on scientific research and traditional medicine, to provide targeted multi-action support for normal brain and cognitive function:

DHA powder - Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid which is vital for brain development and ongoing brain function. It has been shown to support cognitive function in older dogs and is well-tolerated and readily absorbed.1 Our DHA powder is sourced from algae, so is super sustainable.

Bacopa monnieri - Long used in Ayurvedic medicine as a `brain tonic`, Bacopa is a powerful antioxidant which supports the central nervous system, memory and cognitive function.2 It can also help maintain a normal inflammatory state in the brain.3

Lemon balm - A calming herb, traditionally used to aid those with sleep disturbances. It helps to support mental wellbeing and has also been found to promote optimal cognitive function.4

Ginkgo biloba - Used in traditional Chinese medicine, and rich in anti-oxidants this herb has been found to improve the quality of life of older dogs. It has been shown to minimise the impact of disorientation, and sleep and behavioural changes, with 79% of dogs showing a good response.5

Vitamin E - Recognised as a powerful antioxidant, Vitamin E helps support optimal memory and aids DHA uptake in the brain.6

[fvplayer id="17"]

What is canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCD)?

As your pet ages, changes occur across their body - their coat may start to grey, their joints may become stiff, their hearing and sight may worsen, and their cognitive function may decline. It's often the last which can be one of the most distressing for dogs and their owners.

While cognitive decline occurs in all pets as they age, the decline will be accelerated in some. This is often termed canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCD), or ‘doggy dementia’, and is surprisingly common - thought to affect nearly 1 in 3 dogs over the age of 11.7

The signs of cognitive decline include:

Memory loss (forgetting commands)

Restlessness and agitation (pacing)

Disorientation and confusion

House-soiling

Altered behaviour (possible aggression)

Altered sleep patterns

Increased barking

Change in appetite

From this, it is easy to see how CCD can really impact the quality of life for the whole family.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for cognitive decline, but there are ways you can help support your senior pet:

Keep to a routine

Make your home easy for your pet to navigate

Avoid sudden changes - both to your home layout and routine

Make sure your pet has a comfy bed and a safe space

Increase toilet trips and potentially provide somewhere for them to toilet indoors overnight

Maintain exercise and play but make sure it’s appropriate for their joints

Be patient and kind to your pet – it’s not their fault if they forget commands or have an accident in the house

Ensure they have a good diet, rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids

Supplements such as BrainCopa® can also help to support your pet through cognitive decline. With natural, targeted, multi-action brain health and cognitive function support, you can help keep them mentally agile well into their golden years.

Can BrainCopa® be given to any dog or cat?

Yes, BrainCopa® can help support brain and cognitive function in all dogs and cats.

Optimal brain function, including quick learning, a good memory and the correct responses to situations can help your pet live life to the max. It can be especially important to support brain and cognitive function as your pet ages though, to keep their mind sharp so they can continue enjoying life`s experiences to the full.

While we don’t like to think of our pets being classed as senior citizens, it is important to remember that they can reach this title more quickly than we think. Dogs are generally thought to head into their senior years anywhere between 7-11 years, depending on their size and cats are usually considered seniors over 11 years of age.

Does my dog need a joint supplement?

The answer is likely ‘yes’, as it's never too early to start your dog's joint health journey. Many joint health problems start before your dog shows signs, which can be hard to appreciate as you watch them having their ‘mad five minutes’!

All dogs, regardless of age or breed, will experience wear and tear on their joints throughout their lives. This this can lead to joint problems in the future, causing pain and stiffness. Some dogs are also just more prone to joint issues due to developmental abnormalities or previous injury.
Dorwest Raspberry Leaf Tablets

Natural support for your Bitch or Queen, whether pregnant or not.

A popular birth-aid with breeders, the use of Raspberry Leaf in pregnancy is documented as far back as the 6th century and is still recommended by health and veterinary professionals today.

When used in pregnancy, Raspberry Leaf helps to tone and maintain the strength of the muscles of the Uterus in preparation for birth. It is also known for its hormone balancing properties, and so our tablets are helpful for supporting bitches who experience phantom pregnancies.

How to use Raspberry Leaf Tablets.

To help prepare your bitch for whelping, we recommend to start using our Raspberry Leaf Tablets three weeks after mating and continue until one week after whelping.

To help support Bitches who experience phantom pregnancies, use from the first sign of her coming into season and continue for 12 weeks (which is when she would have whelped had she been mated). Ensure you continue in this way for every season, unless she is mated.

While we recommend using Raspberry Leaf Tablets from the first day of your dog's season, they can still be useful if your Bitch is already showing signs of a phantom pregnancy.

How does Raspberry Leaf work?

Our Raspberry Leaf Tablets use high quality Raspberry Leaf extract, packed full of natural compounds to help prepare your Bitch for whelping, and support those who experience phantom pregnancies.

Raspberry Leaf contains:

Fragarine - tones the Uterus.

Iron - important for normal red blood cells.

Tannins - helps normal clotting and tones and maintains strength of the reproductive organs.

Vitamins A, C, B, E, Calcium and Magnesium - all important for pregnancy. Magnesium particularly helps to maintain strength of the Uterine muscles. Vitamin B helps to regulate hormones.

What is a pseudo- or phantom pregnancy?

False, pseudo or phantom pregnancies can affect un-neutered Bitches due to individual response to normal hormonal changes associated with her season. They usually start after the first or second season and unfortunately, if your dog has a tendency to these, she's likely to suffer season after season with symptoms of increasing severity.

These symptoms range from mild unsettled behaviour to more extreme nesting habits, such as carrying toys, looking for pups and depression. Physical changes can also occur, including a change in body shape, enlarged teats and even milk production.

Our Raspberry Leaf Tablets can help your dog cope better with hormonal changes by helping maintain normal balance.

Dorwest Malted Kelp Tablets

Maintain a healthy appetite naturally with Malt Extract – high in energy and Vitamin B.

Our Malted Kelp Tablets are packed full of tasty and nutritious ingredients, and are especially formulated to help tempt picky eaters to devour their dinner.

Aniseed aids digestion and adds extra flavour, while Kelp provides all the essential micronutrients required by your pet. Malt extract is high in energy and Vitamin B - known to stimulate appetite - making this supplement ideal for pets with poor appetites or recovering from illness and in need of a boost.

Containing tasty and nutritious ingredients, these Malted Kelp Tablets herbal supplement is ideal for tempting pets with poor appetites.

Aniseed in the formula aids digestion and is appealing to the taste.

Kelp provides all the essential micronutrients.

Malt extracts gives energy as well as Vitamin B.

These great sources of energy and micronutrients mean Malted Kelp Tablets is the supplement to give fussy eaters, or animals recovering from physical or mental challenges and needing to restore body condition.

My pet is a fussy eater what do you advise?

Feeding by hand, changing foods regularly, feeding human food (just to get them to eat anything!), constant encouragement to eat – all of these probably sound familiar, but it's time to stop and get your pet back into a good feeding routine.

First of all, it's really important to ensure there isn't an underlying illness or dental disease putting your pet off their grub, so it's a good idea to visit your vet for a check-up if you're unsure.

What can I do at home to help?

If your dog has a clear bill of health and is just a true fussy eater, then there are a few steps you can try to get them back on track. Firstly, decide what food you want to give and stick with it – choose a good quality food, full of nutrition.

Don't leave your dog's food down for long periods of time, this gets them into the habit of ‘grazing’. Get them into the routine of clearing their bowl by reducing the size of their portions, and then gradually build it up to their required amount. About 30 mins before their meal time, give them our Malted Kelp Tablets which contain Aniseed and B Vitamins to encourage a healthy appetite.

Give your dog 5-10 minutes to get on and eat their food. As soon as they stop eating take it away, so they know that this is their opportunity to eat. Call your dog when it is a meal time, put the bowl down and give them a clear command, such as ‘dinner time’.

Don't feed them tit-bits between meals, and always offer fresh food at a meal, not their refused left overs. They'll soon learn the routine, and know they have their window of opportunity to eat. Don't feel cruel - your dog has the opportunity to eat and they are choosing not to.
